The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired defenceman Dion Phaneuf and goaltender J.S. Giguere in separate trades on Sunday.
General manager Brian Burke sent forwards Niklas Hagman, Jamal Mayers, Matt Stajan and defenceman Ian White to Calgary in exchange for Phaneuf, forward Fredrik Sjostrom and defenceman Keith Aulie.
Goaltender Vesa Toskala and forward Jason Blake are on their way to Anaheim in exchange for Giguere.
Sjostrom is a former first-round pick and Aulie is an Abbotsford Heat blueliner who played for Canada's national junior team.
The centrepiece in the deal was Phaneuf.
"This guy's a warrior," Burke said. "He's got a cannon for a shot and he plays the game hard."
Both the Leafs and Flames have looked to be in need of a shakeup. The Leafs blew a 3-0 second-period lead on Saturday night against the Vancouver Canucks and fell 5-3 at home. They have struggled all season, and were tied with Carolina for last place in the Eastern Conference following Saturday night's game.
The Flames had lost nine straight before winning Saturday night against visiting Edmonton.
Aulie would report to the Leafs AHL farm team, Burke said.
