Laptop case repair

Postby Cableguy » Sat Feb 20, 2010 1:16 pm

So since I've replaced my daughters laptop for going to University. I have a fun little project.
The case on her Acer Aspire 3610 is completely destroyed but I see it as being a spare for whoever around the house.

As you can see in the first picture the hinge has become completely seperated and in dire need of being fixed before monitor power and video lines are broken too.

So my plan so far is to buy small angle brackets from the hardware store and 2 step opoxy to hopefully make it permantly open at a slight angle and very strong.
So off to the hardware store...
Stay tuned

Ok so this is rather crude but I'm having fun :na:

I got some speed set epoxy, angle brackets, paint (for touch up)

I bent the backet to meet the angle of the body and monitor

then this is what it looks like from the front (before paint touch up which I will do last)

I call it "Franken-puter". Complete with bolts in its neck. I checked it out this morning its actually really strong

Being in the permantly open postion doesn't seem all that bad...alot of laptops probably stay open on someone desk anyway

I haven't had much time but I will update is story soon. I formatted and reinstalled OS (In fact I'm posting from it right now)
but it looks like the grandkids might be claiming this for their visits. It's destined to be a TreeHouse, kids gaming, cookie covered, finger printed toy...sigh...oh well at least is found new life

Thats to pretty of a Laptop to let the kids play with (not).

 Well I'm glad "Franken-puter" could make you feel better in some way. It is pretty hideous isn't it. Once the kids get ahold of it it'll probably be alot worse
