My Aunt's reno/repair job

Postby Cableguy » Fri Feb 12, 2010 7:08 pm

I've been doing some work for my aunt the last few Saturdays.
Since my uncle pasted away about a year ago the big house she was in is too much to handle (10 acres)
So she bought a cute little bungalow closer to family and friends. The home inspector she hired must have been an idiot though lucky for her the house is actually pretty sound, clean and has alot of upgrades.
I did however discover more than one hydro curcuit that was aluminum wiring (The inspector recorded only one)
So for second weekends in a row I pulled new copper curcuits in the heavy load areas, such as the kitchen. I actually was quite lucky here as I was able cut a one foot channel in floor (As she is replacing floor anyway) I cirular sawed the floor as to expose the floor joists to drill and pull new curcuits in. (The basement ceiling was all new drywall EWWW.)
Now she is up to code in the kitchen with 20amp GFI "T" plugs and lighting curcuits. :great:

I don't think I could have given myself more work here  as last Saturday I had to call in a second pair of hands.
Either way shes putting in new kitchen cupboards and counter top so I figured it was the right thing to do.
I changed all the plugs and switches to "Decora" and used the antioxidant grease on all old curcuits in the house.
Tomorrow I'm going to help my Dad button up all the drywall, paint and get it ready for the cupboard installation guys.
Talk to you guys later...

Sounds like a lot of work. I'm sure your aunt appreciates the help.

I have a couple electrical projects to do here but thats not my strong suit so I've been dragging my feet on them, soon I'll have to finish them though.
